As of 2007, the total installed capacity of solar hot water systems is approximately 128 GWth and growth is 15-20 percent per year.  China is the world leader in the deployment of solar hot water with 100 km² installed as of 2006 and a long term goal of 300 km² by 2020.  Israel is the per capita leader in the use of solar hot water with 90 percent of homes using solar water heater technology.

 Note:  Currently China has installed 1.1 billion square feet of solar hot water panels and require new construction to install these energy saving features.  The USA installed only 20.7 thousand square feet in 2006.
